What you get
Negotiating is a very commonplace activity. In fact, all of us have become very expert at it, ever since we first cried and demanded to be fed! However, we often don’t recognize negotiating for what it is. We dress it up as ‘getting your own way’ or ‘a bit of give-and-take’ or even ‘doing a good deal.’ Or we may confuse it with different activities such as joint problem-solving, deadlocks or power games of dominance and submission.
It is vital to understand the true nature of negotiating. A clear understanding of the term negotiating and its purpose makes us better able to identify skill it involves and the applications it has.
